In short: most Dacor ranges are a gas top over one or two electric ovens. On top, the usual fault is a burner that clicks or will not light; in the oven, an element, the sensor, the self-clean latch or the cooling fan, and on the newest Pro ranges also the steam system. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Dacor or Samsung.
Which Dacor range you have
The line decides the parts and how the oven reports a fault.
| Range | Top | Ovens | How it shows faults |
|---|---|---|---|
| ER dual fuel (ER30D to ER60D) and ER all-gas (ER30G, ER36G) | Stacked and crown burners, lit knobs, a control panel that tilts up | One or two ovens; in the main oven the bake and broil elements sit behind glass | Two-digit F-codes on the dual fuel models; the all-gas models differ, so we check by model |
| HDPR48 professional dual fuel | Six sealed burners, two of them 18,000 BTU with dual rings, a griddle plate over the center pair | A 30-inch and an 18-inch electric oven, both self-cleaning | C, U and L codes |
| DOP Pro ranges (DOP36, DOP48) | Four or six burners from 9,000 to 22,000 BTU plus an electric griddle | The 36 has a 30-inch oven with steam assist; the 48 pairs a 30-inch oven with an 18-inch steam oven | C- codes on a touchscreen that rises from the panel |
| Older Classic (ERD, ERSD, RSD, PGR) and Distinctive DR30 | Gas on most, electric on some 30-inch models | Electric on most, gas on the all-gas models | F-codes on Classic, C and U codes on Distinctive |
The DOP ranges came after Samsung bought Dacor and use Samsung electronics.
How a Dacor range is built
- Burners. Each burner has its own valve and igniter. Turning a knob opens the gas and starts the spark, and a regulator at the back of the range keeps the gas pressure steady. The spark stops once the flame is sensed, and on the HDPR48 and DOP a flame that blows out relights by itself.
- Ovens. Bake and broil elements, a rear convection fan with its own element, baffle and washable filter, a smoke eliminator, an oven sensor, a motorized latch and a meat probe socket (not in the small ER48D oven).
- Cooling and electronics. A cooling fan pulls air in through a grille under the cooktop front, where the latch and high-limit also sit. The ER keeps its power board under the spill trays; the DOP adds a display board, the touchscreen and its lift motor.
What fails on a Dacor range, most common first
A burner clicks or will not light
What it usually is: water in the burner ports after cleaning, a cap or ring off center, a dirty or cracked igniter, a loose wire or a spark module. If every burner is dead, the cause is usually power, the gas supply or the spark module; if only one is, it is that burner's parts. Clicking after the flame lights can also come from a draft or reversed polarity in the house wiring; blocked air holes above the knobs make a low flame go out.
What you can check: with the top cool, lift off the cap and ring, wipe the igniter, let everything dry fully and seat the parts flat. Keep the air holes above the knobs clear.
What we do: watch the spark at each burner, test the igniter, wire, valve switch and module, and confirm each module is wired to the right burner.
Flame yellow, lifting, too big or too small
What it usually is: a dirty or misassembled burner, an orifice that does not match the gas, the regulator, or low supply pressure. Soft blue flames are normal on natural gas, slightly yellow tips on propane.
What you can check: clean, dry and reassemble the burner parts. Leave orifices and the regulator alone.
What we do: check each orifice against the gas type, the regulator and the pressure, then leak-test.
Oven slow or will not heat
What it usually is: a failed element, a relay on the power board, or a tripped high-limit. HDPR48 ranges were built with either a ribbon or a tubular broil element, so the exact build decides the part.
What you can check: note which modes heat, and check the breaker, the control lock, any delay start and the meat probe.
What we do: measure each element and its relay, and find why a limit tripped.
Temperature off, or the oven runs away
What it usually is: the oven sensor or its wiring: F30 or F31 on an ER, U30 or U31 on the HDPR48, C-20 on a DOP. Runaway heat (F10 on the ER, C-21 on the DOP) means a stuck relay or a bad sensor reading.
What you can check: a thermometer on the middle rack after twenty minutes. If the oven keeps heating after you cancel, switch off the breaker.
What we do: test the sensor and relays, then set the offset, which on ER all-gas ranges is done on a board inside the range.
Self-clean, latch and a locked door
What it usually is: the latch motor or its switches (F90 on the ER, U50, U51 or U53 on the HDPR48, C-d1 on the DOP). Often it is a setting: self-clean will not start with the probe plugged in, and the ER48D cleans only one oven at a time.
What you can check: unplug the probe, switch the other oven off on a 48-inch ER, and let a hot oven cool before expecting the door to open.
What we do: test the latch motor and switches behind the intake grille and replace what failed.
Cooling fan, knob lights and electronics
What it usually is: a cooling fan that stops, so the boards overheat (C23 or C33 on the HDPR48, often after broiling with the door open), or one that never shuts off. One dark knob means its LED; all knobs dark, the supply or harness. On the DOP, a display that will not rise, or C-F0 or C-F2, means a harness or board.
What you can check: keep the intake grille under the front of the cooktop clear and the oven door shut while broiling. A fan that runs on after you switch off is normal.
What we do: test the fan, boards and harnesses and replace only what the readings point to.
The steam oven on a DOP Pro range
What it usually is: scale from Orange County's hard water, a steam sensor fault (C-70), or C-72, which means water stayed in the oven after draining, most often a drain pump problem.
What you can check: run the descale and drain cycles the oven asks for (see the descaling guide).
What we do: test the pumps, sensor and generator and replace the failed part.
Common Dacor range codes
Meanings vary by model and era, and one code can have several causes.
| Code | Range | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| F10 | ER dual fuel | Runaway heat in cook or clean: a stuck relay or a sensor reading wrong | Switch off the breaker; call |
| F30 / F31 | ER dual fuel | Oven sensor or its wiring shorted (F30) or open (F31) | Call; we test the sensor and its wiring |
| F90 | ER dual fuel | Door latch did not finish its move in time | Let it cool, do not force the door, call |
| C23 / C33 | HDPR48 | Electronics too hot: the oven shuts down and runs its cooling fans until they cool | Keep the door shut while broiling; if it happens with the door shut, the fans need testing |
| C-20 / C-21 | DOP | Oven sensor fault / oven overheating | For C-21, switch off the breaker; call |
How we work on a Dacor range in your kitchen
- Top and front first. Burners, igniters, spark modules, valves and the ER power board are reached under the grates and spill trays; oven controls behind the front panel; the broil element, the ER bake element under its glass, the sensor and the convection fan blade from inside the oven.
- Behind the back panel when we must. The regulator, the ER cooling fan, the convection element and motor, and the HDPR48 hidden bake element mean sliding the range forward over floor protection and releasing the anti-tip bracket, then a bubble leak test on every gas fitting we touched. An HDPR48 weighs over 500 pounds, and a DOP has a rangetop that lifts off separate oven modules, so moving either one is planned ahead. You hear about it first.
Stay safe. If you smell gas, leave the house without touching switches and call the gas company or 911 from outside. Do not slide the range out or open its panels: it is heavy, held by an anti-tip bracket and fed by gas and 240 volts. Self-clean fumes can harm pet birds; move them away and open a window.
Repair or replace a Dacor range
| What failed | Our usual advice |
|---|---|
| Igniter, spark module, valve, sensor, element, fan, latch, board, steam pump | Repair, once the part and its lead time are confirmed. |
| Several failures on an older Classic range with boards no longer made | Consider replacing. A new range must fit the opening, the hood and the gas and electric supply. |

Dacor ranges: questions
Why does my Dacor burner keep clicking after it lights?
Some clicking on a cold burner turned down low is normal for the first minute or so. If it keeps going, the igniter is usually damp or greasy or the cap sits crooked: let the top cool, then dry and reseat the parts. If it still clicks, we check the spark module and the house wiring polarity.
Why will broil not work on my Dacor range?
Check the meat probe first: broil modes stay off while it is plugged in. If the probe is out, no delay is set and the panel is not locked, the broil element or its relay needs testing.
Can both ovens on a 48-inch Dacor self-clean at once?
Not on the ER48D. It cleans one oven at a time, so switch the other oven off and start the cycle again.
The door on my Dacor Pro range stayed locked after a power outage. What now?
If the outage came during self-clean, let the oven cool, then turn the control lock on and off again, which releases the latch. If the door stays locked or shows C-d1, call us and do not force it.
Can a Dacor range be converted from natural gas to propane?
Many can, with the kit made for that exact model, fitted by a technician. Some models are not meant for field conversion and some older kits are no longer made, so we check by model and serial first.
