In short: Monogram is the luxury line of GE Appliances. In Orange County homes it mostly means a ZIS built-in side-by-side, a Professional range or rangetop, and a wall oven or built-in microwave. We are an independent service, not affiliated with GE Appliances or Monogram.

The Monogram lines we service

Every Monogram model number starts with Z, and the next two or three letters say what the appliance is. With the serial number, it tells us the generation before we drive out.

  • Built-in refrigerators. The ZIS side-by-sides in 36, 42 and 48-inch widths are the Monogram we see most, in custom-panel, stainless and Professional-style versions, with or without ice and water in the door. Inside they went from two dials to touch controls, then a variable-speed compressor, then LED lighting and Wi-Fi. See Monogram refrigerator repair. We also repair Monogram bottom-freezer and French door built-ins, fully integrated columns, wine reserves and undercounter units; for those, call with the model number.
  • Professional ranges and rangetops. Dual fuel ranges (ZDP) put stacked gas burners over electric convection ovens; all-gas ranges (ZGP) bake and broil with gas burners; ZGU rangetops are the cooktop alone, set into the counter. Widths are 30, 36 and 48 inches, many with a griddle, an infrared grill or both. See Monogram range repair.
  • Wall ovens and microwaves. The 30-inch ZET electric convection wall ovens, single and double, in Professional and integrated stainless styling, and the built-in microwaves and speed ovens installed next to them. See Monogram wall oven repair.
  • Dishwashers. Monogram built-in dishwashers are covered under luxury dishwasher repair.

The tag with both numbers moves around by product. For the built-in refrigerators, the tag location and how to date the unit by generation are on Monogram refrigerator repair. On a Professional range, look under the front control panel at the left. On a ZET wall oven, open the door and look at the front left of the oven frame.

Across these GE-built lines the serial opens with two letters: the first is the month and the second the year of manufacture. The year letters start over every twelve years, so we read the serial together with the model number, which carries its own model-year letter.

What fails on a Monogram, and why

Most of what we replace on Monogram appliances are parts that wear with heat, dust, grease and time. Roughly in order of how often we see them:

Refrigerator condenser and condenser fan

What it usually is: every ZIS keeps its compressor, condenser and condenser fan in a compartment above the doors, about seven feet up. When the coil mats with dust and kitchen grease, or the fan stops, the compressor runs long and hot and both sections drift warmer.

What you can check: with the breaker off, lift or remove the top grille and look at the coil. On recent models it is the same grille you lift to change the water filter.

What we do: clean the coil, test the fan and the board output that drives it, and watch the cabinet pull down. See Monogram refrigerator not cooling.

Refrigerator fans, damper and defrost

What it usually is: a ZIS has one cooling coil, in the freezer ceiling, and a fan pushes its air through the freezer and past a damper (motorized on electronic models, mechanical on dial units) into the fresh-food side. A stalled fan, a damper stuck shut, or a failed defrost part that let the coil ice over all start the same way: the fresh-food side warms first, then the freezer softens.

What you can check: frost on the freezer ceiling or back wall, water under the drawers, and whether the fresh-food side is warm while the freezer still holds.

What we do: test the fan, the damper, the defrost heater and the sensors, thaw the coil, and confirm the next defrost works before we leave.

The compressor drive on 2004 and later refrigerators

What it usually is: from the 2004 models on, the compressor is a variable-speed unit run by its own inverter board, and a failed drive looks like a failed compressor.

What you can check: nothing; it is live wiring behind the grille.

What we do: test the drive and the compressor separately before anything is ordered. See Monogram refrigerator not cooling and sealed-system repair.

Ice, water and lighting on the refrigerators

What it usually is: a slow dispenser or a quiet ice maker is most often the water valve, an old filter or low house pressure; a dark cabinet on the early 2000s models is usually the lighting circuit, not a bulb.

What you can check: the filter date and the shutoff valve. If every light is out, switch off the breaker before you lift the grille, make sure the master light switch is on, then put the grille back and restore power.

What we do: test the flow and the circuit. Details by generation are on Monogram refrigerator repair and ice maker repair.

Range burners that click or will not light

What it usually is: Monogram Professional burners relight themselves if the flame blows out. A wet or dirty igniter, a cap that is not seated flat, or a worn valve switch keeps the igniters clicking or stops them firing. The griddle, the infrared grill and the gas ovens light with a glow-bar instead, and an aged one can glow and still never open the gas valve.

What you can check: with the top cold, lift the grate and cap, dry the burner base and igniter, and seat the cap level. Give a griddle, grill or gas oven a full minute to light; the delay is normal.

What we do: test the igniter, the switch, the module or the glow-bar circuit, and leak-test every gas fitting we touch. See professional range repair and cooktop repair.

Electric ovens: sensor, elements, cooling fan and lock

What it usually is: the ZET wall ovens and the dual fuel range ovens heat with bake, broil and convection elements under one electronic control. The sensor, an element that burned open during a self-clean, the convection fan, the door lock and the cooling fan behind the control are what wear. If the cooling fan stalls, the control cuts the heat and shows F9.

What you can check: which modes heat and which do not, and what the display shows. Let a self-clean finish its cooldown before you try the door.

What we do: read the stored codes, measure the part, and replace it. See wall oven repair.

Built-in microwaves that run but do not heat

What it usually is: a microwave that lights, turns and hums but leaves food cold usually has a failed magnetron or a fault in the high-voltage parts that feed it.

What you can check: nothing inside. A microwave holds a dangerous charge even after it is unplugged.

What we do: discharge and test the circuit, then replace the failed part, as on our GE Monogram microwave magnetron fix in Orange County in July 2026. See microwave and speed oven repair.

Symptoms

Start from what the appliance is doing. Each guide lists the safe owner checks, the usual causes by generation, and when to call.

Fault codes and what the displays show

Monogram controls keep more history than they show. The 2016 built-in refrigerators store each fault with how many times it happened and how many days ago, and a technician reads that list from the front panel. The 2006-era ZET wall ovens and the dial-control Professional ranges keep their last seven fault codes, but those wall ovens show only F9 to the owner and the ranges only F2, an oven far hotter than any setting, and F9; other generations differ. An oven that stopped with a blank display may still have a code in memory. Write down what you see before resetting power; our error codes section covers other brands.

How we work on Monogram in a finished kitchen

  • Refrigerators from the top and the front. Most refrigerator repairs are done from a ladder through the grille, with the unit left in its opening. A ZIS is anchored against tipping, so pulling one out is planned and explained first.
  • Custom panels stay on when they can. Panels made for your kitchen cannot be ordered from the factory. They come off only when a repair needs it and are padded while they are off.
  • Ranges stay put when they can. Burner and spark parts come out from the top, oven sensors and elements from inside the oven. The relay boards, the cooling fan and the oven gas valve are on the back, and the burner valves sit behind the front control panel, which needs the range pulled out about ten inches. For either, the range rolls forward over floor protection, and the anti-tip bracket is checked on the way back.
  • Wall ovens planned around their weight. Elements, the sensor and the door come out from the front. If a part can only be reached with the oven out of the wall, we tell you before the visit and plan the lift and the floor protection.
  • Measurements before parts. Temperatures, igniter current, sensor readings and the stored fault history. Nothing is ordered on a guess.
  • Lead times up front. Common parts are on the van. Monogram parts usually come from a distributor or the manufacturer in a few business days, and we tell you the lead time before you decide.

How a Monogram repair goes

  1. Call or book online. Tell us the model and what it is doing, and send a photo of the tag if you can. The person who answers is a technician, and visits are same-day or next-day Monday to Saturday, depending on the schedule.
  2. Diagnosis in your kitchen. Floors and cabinetry protected, the fault found with measurements and the stored codes, covered by the $79 service call.
  3. Written price. Parts and labor in writing, with the lead time if the part is not on the van. You decide with the numbers in front of you.
  4. Repair and warranty. Parts and labor are under warranty, and if the same fault comes back within 90 days, the return visit has no service-call fee.

Monogram repair: questions

Are you GE Appliances or Monogram factory service?

No. We are an independent service, not affiliated with GE Appliances or Monogram. If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact GE Appliances first; once it is out of warranty, or for a second opinion, we can help.

Is Monogram just a GE appliance with a different badge?

Monogram is the premium brand of GE Appliances. Some internal parts are shared with other GE Appliances models and are easy to get; panels, trim and some boards are Monogram-specific and can take a few business days.

How old a Monogram do you repair?

From dial-control ZIS refrigerators to current models. On the oldest units the question is parts, and we check what can still be sourced before you commit.

Do you repair Monogram integrated columns and wine reserves?

Yes. They are built differently from the ZIS side-by-sides, so send the model number and a photo of the tag when you book, and we will say what is likely and whether parts are available.

How much does a Monogram repair cost?

The $79 service call is applied to the repair. Igniters, sensors and fans sit at the low end of the ranges above, control boards in the middle, and compressor or sealed-system work at the top. You approve the written price before work starts.

Can you fix a custom-panel Monogram refrigerator without taking the panels off?

Usually, yes. Most parts are reached through the top grille or the inside of the cabinet. If a repair needs a panel removed or the unit pulled forward, we say so first and protect the panels and the floor.

What should I do if I smell gas near my Monogram range?

Leave the house without touching light switches or lighting anything, and call the gas company or 911 from outside. Once it is safe, we repair the cause on the appliance side and leak-test our work.
