Viking Range, Oven and Refrigerator Repair
Viking Professional and 3 Series ranges, Professional and Designer wall ovens, and the built-in refrigerators that sit beside them, repaired in your kitchen. Most Viking faults come down to an igniter, an element, a sensor or a fan, and you approve a written price before any work starts.

In short: on the cooking side, the Viking parts that wear out are mostly surface igniters, oven igniters and elements, temperature sensors, cooling and convection fans, and the self-clean latch. On the built-in refrigerators it is the condenser, fans, defrost parts, water valves and the compressor drive. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Viking Range.
The Viking lines we service
The product line and the build date decide which parts fit and how a Viking reports a problem, so the model and serial numbers are the first things we ask for on the phone.
- Ranges. Professional ranges from 30 to 60 inches, all-gas and dual fuel, some with a griddle or char-grill, and the 30-inch 3 Series gas range, whose model number contains RVGR (color versions add a prefix such as C or BZ). See Viking range repair.
- Wall ovens. Electric built-in ovens, single and double, 27 and 30 inches wide: Professional styling (VESO, VEDO) and Designer styling (DESO, DEDO), each in a Select or a Premiere version. See Viking wall oven repair.
- Built-in refrigerators. The 5 Series side-by-sides in 42 and 48 inch widths (VCSB, VISB, DDSB, DFSB) and the 36-inch bottom-freezer models (VCBB, VIBB, DDBB, DFBB), with stainless, Designer, overlay or fully integrated doors. See Viking refrigerator repair.
- Rangetops and cooktops. Repaired in the counter; see cooktop repair.
On these Viking lines the serial opens with the build date as month, day and two-digit year, so a phone photo of the tag tells us the age without a receipt. The FAQ below shows where the tag is.

Most Viking failures are parts that wear out with heat, grease and years of use, not defects. Roughly in order of how often they fail:
Burners that click or will not light
What it usually is: a wet or fouled igniter, a cap sitting off-center, or a spark part. Which spark part depends on the range line, so the model number matters here. See Viking range repair and Viking burner not lighting.
A gas oven that will not light
What it usually is: the igniter, a gas valve or the spark control, depending on the model. Whether bake or broil still lights narrows it down before we arrive. See Viking oven not heating.
Elements and relays in electric ovens
What it usually is: wall ovens and dual fuel ranges heat with a concealed bake element, inner and outer broil elements and, on convection models, a ring element around the rear fan. A broken element leaves one mode dead or slows preheat; a board relay that stops switching looks the same from outside.
What you can check: note which modes heat and which stay cold, and tell us when you call. The wall oven page explains what each pattern points to.
What we do: test each element and the relay that feeds it. See Viking wall oven repair.
Temperature that runs hot or cold
What it usually is: the oven sensor or the temperature knob, which Viking calls the thermostat and which on many models tells the control board what you set. Check with an oven thermometer after the oven has cycled for twenty minutes, and see Viking oven not heating. Our write-up on a Viking oven that would not hold temperature (Orange County, May 2024) shows a thermostat replacement.
Cooling fans, safety limits and the self-clean latch
What it usually is: when the cooling blower that protects the oven controls stops, a thermal safety trips and the oven goes dead while the clock or the burners still work. The self-clean latch is motor driven; a failed motor or switch stops self-clean or leaves the door locked.
What you can check: whether you hear the blower once the oven is well into a hot bake. On the 3 Series it is switched by oven temperature, so after a low or short bake it may stay quiet, which is normal. If the door is locked after a clean, let the oven cool completely and never force it.
What we do: test the blower, the safety and the latch. Some of these parts need the appliance moved, which we plan with you.
Refrigerators: cooling, defrost and water
What it usually is: the 5 Series built-ins run a variable-speed compressor through a separate inverter, with the condenser behind the top grille. Common faults are a dusty condenser, fan motors, a defrost heater or sensor, and water valves. Dispenser models use two valves so one stuck valve cannot flood the kitchen, and that circuit changed on units built from mid-2010, so the parts depend on the serial.
What you can check: the power switch behind the top grille, a matted condenser, and the water shutoff.
What we do: test fans, sensors, valves and the compressor drive, and do sealed-system work in-house. See refrigerator not cooling, ice maker not working and sealed-system repair.

Viking symptoms
Start with what the appliance is doing: a top that clicks or a burner that will not catch, an oven that stays cold or misses its temperature, a warm refrigerator, or an empty ice bin. Each guide lists the safe owner checks, the usual causes and when to stop and call.

Read moreError codes and indicator lights
Viking ranges and wall ovens are mostly run by knobs, so they report trouble with lights rather than codes. On self-clean 3 Series ranges, the cycle and clean lights blink in patterns that point to the latch, the oven sensor or the control. The built-in refrigerators have door and high-temperature alarms and a diagnostic light on the compressor drive; Viking refrigerator error codes explains them.
How we work on Viking in a finished kitchen
- Ranges stay in place when they can. Burners and spark parts are reached from above, controls behind the front panel, and oven burners, igniters and the convection fan from inside the oven. Parts behind the back panel mean sliding the range out over floor protection, with the anti-tip bracket and gas connector handled properly.
- Gas work done carefully. Any fitting that is opened is leak-checked before the range goes back in place.
- Wall ovens from the front first. Most oven parts come out with the oven in the wall. A few, the cooling blower among them, mean taking it out, which is planned ahead.
- Measurements before parts. We measure the suspect part before we order it.
- Lead times up front. Common parts are on the van; Viking parts usually come from a distributor in a few business days, and you hear the lead time before you decide.

Viking repair: questions
Are you a Viking factory service center?
No. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Viking Range. If your appliance is still under Viking's own warranty, contact Viking or your dealer first; once it is out of warranty, we can help.
How old a Viking do you repair?
Any age we can still find parts for. Igniters, elements, sensors, valves and fans stay available for a long time; some older control boards and trim pieces do not, and we check by model and serial before you commit.
How much does a Viking repair cost?
The $79 service call is applied to the repair. Igniters and sensors sit at the low end of the ranges above, control boards and sealed-system work at the top.
Where is the model and serial number on my Viking?
On a range, under the control panel with the oven door open, or under the base. On a wall oven, at the upper left of the oven opening below the panel. On a built-in refrigerator, at the upper left of the door opening.
Do you repair Viking rangetops and cooktops?
Yes. On gas models the burners, valves and spark parts are the same kind as on a Viking range top, and most of that work is done from above with the unit left in the counter.
Do you repair Viking built-in refrigerators?
Yes, the side-by-side and bottom-freezer built-ins, their ice makers and dispensers. We are EPA-certified for refrigerant work and do compressor, evaporator and leak repairs ourselves.
What should I do if I smell gas near my Viking range?
Leave the house without touching switches or lighting anything, and call the gas company or 911 from outside. Once the gas company has made it safe, we can find and repair the cause on the appliance side.
