In short: most Thermador calls are a Star burner that clicks or will not light, an ExtraLow burner that will not simmer, an oven that will not heat, a cooling fan or door lock, a microwave that runs without heating, or on the refrigeration side an ice maker, a defrost fault or a leak. We repair built-in and panel-ready units in place. We are an independent service, not affiliated with BSH Home Appliances, the company that makes Thermador.
The Thermador lines we service
Thermador belongs to BSH Home Appliances, the group behind Bosch and Gaggenau. Inside the brand, the product line and the production date decide which parts fit and how the appliance reports a fault. The Thermador lines found in Orange County kitchens:
- Pro ranges. Pro Grand and Pro Harmony, all-gas and dual fuel, with Star burners, ExtraLow simmer burners (the left front and left rear on most models), and on many models an electric griddle or, on some Pro Grand models, a gas grill. The 48-inch models carry a large and a small oven.
- Rangetops and cooktops. Gas rangetops and cooktops with the same Star burners and simmer controls, and induction cooktops.
- Wall ovens. Current Masterpiece and Professional singles, doubles and combinations, and the earlier S, C, CM and SEC ovens still cooking in many 1990s and 2000s kitchens.
- Microwaves and speed ovens. Microwave drawers, built-in microwaves, speed ovens, and the older 27-inch units that stack a microwave over a warming drawer and an oven.
- Refrigeration. Freedom refrigerator, freezer and wine columns, built-in bottom-freezer and French door models, and freezer columns with ice and water dispensers.
- Dishwashers. Built on the BSH platform; see luxury dishwasher repair.

Read moreFinding the model and the FD number
The rating plate carries the model, serial and FD number: behind the kick panel on a Pro Grand range, under the control panel above the oven door on a Pro Harmony, behind the cooling vent trim on CM wall ovens, inside the compartment on refrigerators. A phone photo of it lets us check parts first.
The FD number is the production date. Add 20 to the first two digits and keep the last two digits of the sum for the year; the last two digits of the FD number are the month. So FD 9112 is December 2011, since 91 plus 20 is 111. Thermador changes parts at FD breaks, so we order by FD number, not by model alone.
What fails on a Thermador, and why
The common Thermador repairs, roughly from most to least frequent:
Star burner ignition and clicking
What it usually is: each burner has its own spark electrode and relights itself if the flame goes out. Water from a boil-over is the usual cause of clicking with the knobs off; a cracked electrode, a worn switch or the spark module come next.
What we do: find the burner circuit at fault before we replace anything. See Thermador burner clicking and Thermador range repair.
ExtraLow simmer burners
What it usually is: at the lowest setting an ExtraLow burner turns its flame on and off, a few seconds out of each minute, with a solenoid click each time, and that cycling is normal. When the flame will not cycle, goes out for good or stays on full, the cause is the solenoid, the simmer potentiometer behind the knob, the wiring or the simmer board.
What you can check: if the burner holds a flame on HI, the fault is in the simmer control.
What we do: test the solenoid and the potentiometer before the board, because the board is often not the part that failed.
Gas oven ignition on all-gas ranges
What it usually is: on all-gas ranges a worn igniter is the usual reason an oven lights late or not at all.
What you can check: a short delay after you set Bake is normal. A smell of gas with no flame is not: turn the oven off, leave the house and call the gas company or 911 from outside.
What we do: test the igniter before the gas parts. See Thermador oven not heating.
Elements, sensors and relays
What it usually is: dual fuel ranges and wall ovens bake with a hidden element under the floor, broil from the ceiling and add a convection element behind the fan. An open element means a slow preheat or a dead mode; a drifting sensor makes the oven run hot or cold; a relay on the control board can stick.
What you can check: which modes still heat, and an oven thermometer on the middle rack after a full preheat.
What we do: measure each element, the sensor and the relay outputs. See Thermador wall oven repair.
Cooling fans and heat protection
What it usually is: ranges and wall ovens have a cooling fan for the controls, and on many models a switch or sensor must prove the fan is turning before the oven may heat. A worn fan, a fan the control cannot see, or a thermal fuse that opened after the chassis overheated leaves an oven that lights up and does nothing.
What you can check: after cooking, a fan should run on and stop by itself.
What we do: find why the controls overheated before replacing the fan or a fuse. See Thermador range repair.
Door latch, hinges and gaskets
What it usually is: self-clean and speed clean lock the door with a motorized latch whose switches report its position. The strongly sprung door hinges wear, and cleaning heat hardens the gasket.
What you can check: let the oven cool fully before expecting the door to unlock. Never pry it.
What we do: test the latch motor and switches, and replace hinges as a pair, usually with the gasket.
Microwaves that run but do not heat
What it usually is: a microwave that runs without heating is usually the magnetron or the parts that feed it. One gone dead with a blown fuse usually traces to a door switch; a drawer that stops, to its drive.
What we do: test with the stored charge drained, and check for leakage after any door or magnetron work. See Thermador microwave repair.
Ice makers and dispensers
What it usually is: a closed or weak water supply, a frozen fill tube, the water valve, the ice maker module, or a dispenser fault: the auger motor, the flap or crusher solenoids, or the dispenser electronics. Hard water shortens valve life.
What you can check: the water shutoff, the filter, and that the ice maker is on. Sabbath mode turns it off.
What we do: run the ice maker's self-test and test the valve and dispenser parts. Our job post Thermador Refrigerator Ice Dispenser Not Working (Irvine, September 2026) is a typical case. See Thermador ice maker not working.
Cooling, defrost and the sealed system
What it usually is: on Thermador columns the compressor and condenser usually sit at the bottom behind the toe kick, with the evaporator at the top. A dusty condenser, a fan, a defrost heater or sensor, and on some units the inverter module that varies compressor speed come before the sealed system. Leaks and compressor failures are rarer and change the decision most.
What you can check: the set point, door closing, and a toe kick grille that is not blocked.
What we do: confirm with temperature and pressure readings, then repair in-house. See Thermador refrigerator repair, Thermador refrigerator not cooling and sealed-system repair.

- Pro ranges. On a fault two blue LEDs blink a two-digit code; Thermador range repair shows how to read it.
- Older wall ovens. S, C and CM ovens show F-codes, and a CM oven flashes dor if self-clean is set and it cannot confirm the latch. See the wall oven page.
- Refrigerators. The door alarm sounds once a door has been open a while: about three minutes on many column models, 30 to 60 seconds on built-in French door and bottom-freezer models. Sabbath mode switches off the ice maker, alarms, lights and buttons, which looks like a failure and is a setting.
- Microwaves. A touch with no beep was not accepted, and a control lock looks like a dead panel.
Codes for every brand we service are on error codes.
How we work on Thermador in a finished kitchen
- Ranges from the top first. Most range parts are reached from the top, and the range comes forward on padding only for parts at the back.
- Gas shut first, fittings tested after. The gas is closed at the appliance before any gas part is opened, and every fitting we touch is leak-tested before we leave.
- Wall ovens from the front where possible. On some older CM ovens the oven has to come out of the wall, and we tell you first.
- Columns in place. Panel-ready columns stay in their openings, with the machine compartment reached through the toe kick on most of them.
- Lead times up front. Common parts are on the van; Thermador parts come from a distributor or BSH, usually in a few business days.
For refrigeration from other brands beside the range, see Sub-Zero repair and built-in refrigerator repair.

Thermador repair: questions
Are you a Thermador factory service center?
No. We are an independent service, not affiliated with BSH Home Appliances, which makes Thermador. If your appliance is still under Thermador's own warranty, contact Thermador first; after that, we can help.
How much does a Thermador repair cost?
The service call is $79 and is applied to the repair. Igniters, switches, sensors and fans sit at the low end of the ranges above, control boards and sealed-system work at the top, and you approve a written price first.
Do you repair Thermador rangetops and induction cooktops?
Yes, in place. Gas rangetops share the Star burners and simmer controls of the ranges; induction cooktops are covered on cooktop repair.
Where do I find the model and FD number?
On the rating plate. On ranges it is behind the kick panel or under the control panel, on wall ovens around the door frame or the vent trim, and on refrigerators inside the compartment. A phone photo of it is the most useful thing to send before a visit.
Do you repair Thermador Freedom column refrigerators?
Yes: refrigerator, freezer and wine columns and the built-in bottom-freezer models, in place behind their panels. Fans, defrost parts, ice makers and dispensers are the usual repairs, and compressor and leak repairs are done in-house.
Is an older Thermador range or wall oven worth repairing?
Usually, while the parts are still made. Burners, igniters, elements, fans and latches are normally worth replacing on an older unit. Several failed boards, or a control no longer made, make it a replacement question, and we check the part for your model and FD number before you decide.
What should I do if I smell gas near my Thermador range?
Get everyone out of the house without switching lights or appliances on or off, and call the gas company or 911 once you are outside. Once it is safe again, we find the cause on the appliance side and repair it.
