Miele Dishwasher Error Codes
When a Miele dishwasher finds a fault it usually stops the program, runs the drain pump and then flashes a light or shows an F code. The number alone is not enough, because the oldest models use a different list from everything built since, so the model number comes first.
$79 service call, applied to the repair. Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 7 PM.
In short: F11 is a drain problem, F12 to F14 are fill or wash-pressure problems, F24 and F25 point at heating, and F70 means water reached the pan under the machine. First make sure the valve under the sink is open, clean the filters at the bottom of the tub, and use only dishwasher detergent. If the drain pump runs with the machine switched off, switch off the circuit, close the water valve and call.
Which Miele dishwasher you have
On most models the data tag is on the side edge of the door. The model starts with G, and the number tells us which controls the machine has and which code list applies.
| Model looks like | Generation | How a fault shows up |
|---|---|---|
| G 643, G 843, G 858, G 880, G 890, G 892 | G 600 and G 800: Novotronic dial, Touchtronic buttons or Incognito controls on the door top | A flashing Intake/Drain light or flashing program lights; the code itself is read by a technician |
| G 1180, G 1470, G 2020 to G 2870, including the Optima G 2470 SCVi | G 1000 and G 2000 | Lights on most models, a written message on Navitronic displays |
| G 4205, G 45x0, G 5105, G 5505, G 5775, G 5915, G 5975 | Futura: Classic, Crystal, Dimension, Diamond | Text on display models, lights on the rest; adds codes for the motorized latch |
| G 47x0 (18 inch), G 49xx, G 61xx, G 63xx, G 65xx, G 69xx | Generation 6000 | Four small white lights flashing together, or Technical fault with the number |
A G 4 number can be Futura or Generation 6000, so the full model settles it. Generation 7000 machines use later electronics and are not covered here; give us the model number with the code.
Messages that are not faults
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Close salt container lid | The softener salt cap inside the tub is loose. The lid carries a magnet the control looks for. | Screw it down firmly. If the message stays, the lid or its sensor is checked (F86). |
| Door opened a little at the end (G 63xx, 65xx, 69xx) | AutoOpen drying lets the steam out; the program has not finished. | Let it finish; the display shows when the program has ended. |
| Door opens during a wash (Knock2Open models) | The setting was changed to one knock, dishes rattle hard, or the top basket touches the door. | Set two knocks and push the basket fully in. |
| Dark display, then Empty heat exchanger when you press On | Water left unused in the heat exchanger for some weeks is being pumped out for hygiene; other buttons do nothing until it ends. | Wait a few minutes; it cannot be stopped. |
| Program will not start, or stops with no message | The door contact is not closing: a seal out of its groove or a latch out of adjustment. | Press the seal back in. Call if it repeats. |
F codes by system: G 1000 and later
These meanings cover the G 1000 and G 2000, Futura and Generation 6000. Not every code exists on every model, and meanings vary by model and era. Some codes are only logged and show nothing until the memory is read.
Water intake
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| F12 | Almost no water came in at the start of a fill; displays read water inlet fault. | Open the valve under the sink fully, check other taps have pressure, and look for a kinked hose. |
| F13 | Some water came in, but not enough within about four minutes. | Same checks. Recent plumbing work is a useful clue. |
| F14 | After the fill, the circulation pump could not build enough wash pressure. | Clean the filters, use only dishwasher detergent, check for a flipped bowl full of water, and rerun once. |
| F15 | On a hot water hookup, the incoming water was under about 100°F. The program continues. | Run the kitchen hot tap before starting. |
| F18 | Water was counted with the valve switched off, so the valve is likely sticking open. | If the tub fills while off, close the water valve and call. |
| F19 | The flow meter is turning stiffly. | Call. |
Drain and leak protection
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| F11 | After the drain step, the water level was checked twice and was still too high. | Clean the filter combination, check the drain hose and run the disposal. See Miele dishwasher not draining. |
| F70 | Water reached the base pan and lifted the WaterProof float. The inlet is shut and the drain pump runs, even with the machine off. | Switch off the circuit, close the water valve and call. |
| Intake/Drain light flashing and lit in turn (fully integrated) | No water is arriving: the supply valve is closed or the screen in the hose fitting is blocked. | Open the valve; a blocked screen is a visit. |
Heating and water temperature
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| F01, F02 | The water temperature sensor or its wiring reads shorted (F01) or open (F02). No heat and no rinse aid for the rest of the program. | Call. Expect cool, wet dishes meanwhile. |
| F24 | The heater relay passes power when it should not, often welded contacts or moisture. | Stop using the machine and call. |
| F25 | The water never reached its target temperature, even after at least 75 minutes. | Check for heavy foam; otherwise the heater or its relay. |
| F26 | Boil protection: the water passed about 194°F. | Call; relay, sensor, or on some Futura units a latch stopped out of position. |
| F51, F52 | The heater pressure switch check failed at program start (F51), or the switch dropped out while heating and the program went on unheated (F52). | F52 is mostly foam or a flipped bowl; F51 is a visit. |
Circulation pump and spray arm diverter
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| F53, F63, F67 | Logged only: the pump speed sensor went quiet (G 1000 and G 2000), the diverter that feeds the arms in turn did not report moving, or the pump started too slowly. | Poor cleaning on one rack is the clue. |
| F68, F69 | The pump ran on after it was told to stop, or it is blocked and pressure is too low. | Call. Broken glass and pits are the usual debris. |
| F78, F79, F84, F85 | The pump's own drive electronics failed or lost contact, or the diverter cannot reach or hold its position. | Call. On many models the diverter is part of the pump assembly. |
Door latch, electronics and sensors
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| F32, F33, F36 | The motorized latch did not close or open in time, or two of its switches report closed at once. Displays may read Fault with auto. door closing. | Remove any towel hung over the door, switch off and on, and close the door gently. F36 is a visit. |
| F40, F47, F179 | A control fault, the display and power boards not talking, or (Generation 6000) low supply to the pump drive. | Call. |
| F42 | The control could not recognize the frequency of the house power. | The supply is checked first, especially on a generator or backup system. |
| F86, F87 | Salt lid not detected, or (G 1000 and G 2000) the sensor softener lost contact and runs a fixed schedule. | Close the lid. F87 is not urgent. |
| F88, F91 | The soil sensor or the load-size check gave no usable reading; the program runs on fixed settings. | Load so nothing tips over and holds water. |
G 600 and G 800: the older list
These machines use single-digit codes, two of them reversed against the later list, and most keep only the latest fault. On many of them, a flashing Intake/Drain light points at water in or out, while all the program lights flashing points at heat, the sensor or the control and blocks a new program until cleared.
| Code | What it means on a G 600 or G 800 |
|---|---|
| F01 or F1 | Temperature sensor or wiring open; later models call this F02 |
| F02 or F2 | The same sensor shorted; later models call this F01 |
| F03 | An electronic fault on most models; a flow meter pulse fault on the G 680 and G 880 |
| F04 | Heating fault: the heating circuit is open, or the water passed about 194°F. Depending on the model, programs run without heat, or the machine stops and the program lights flash until the fault is cleared |
| F05 | Drain fault |
| F06, F07, F08 | Too little water at the start or end of a fill, or a fill fault seen by the pressure switch |
| F09 | The heater pressure switch did not respond as expected during heating |
We do not publish the key sequences for the service and programming modes. They run pumps and valves directly, and a wrong step clears the history that shows whether a fault keeps returning.
What the common codes turn out to be
A code names the circuit that complained, not the part that failed.
F11: drain fault
F11 is most often the filters, the sink drain or something caught under the filters, and only then the drain pump. The causes by generation, and how to tell the house drain from the machine, are on Miele dishwasher not draining.
F12, F13 and the inlet light: water supply
What it usually is: a valve left half closed, low pressure, or a clogged screen where the WaterProof hose meets the valve.
What we do: measure the flow, clean the screen or replace the hose, and test the valve.
F14, F25 and F52: foam before parts
What it usually is: hand dish soap, too much detergent or rinse aid, or all-in-one tablets with the wrong setting. Foam lowers the pressure the machine expects. After that, the circulation pump, heater or relay.
What you can check: run an empty hot program with no detergent and watch for suds.
What we do: test the pump, heater and relay under load, and check the detergent and hardness settings.
F70: a leak into the base
What it usually is: a pump seal, a hose connection, the door seal or foam overflow.
What we do: pull the machine out with the floor and cabinets protected, dry the pan and run it with the covers off until the leak shows.

Stay safe. If the tub fills while the machine is off, or the drain pump will not stop, switch off the circuit and close the water valve. Do not tip the machine to empty the base pan or pull a built-in out of its cabinet; it is fixed to the counter and the hoses run behind it.

Miele dishwasher error codes: questions
What does F14 mean on a Miele dishwasher?
After filling, the pump could not build wash pressure. Foam from the wrong or too much detergent is the usual reason, then blocked filters, then the pump or the pressure switch.
What do F12 and F13 mean?
Both are fill faults. F12 means almost no water arrived at the start of a fill, F13 that not enough arrived in time. Check the valve under the sink first.
What does F24 mean, and can I keep using the machine?
The heater relay is passing power when it should be off. Stop using the dishwasher until the relay is checked.
Is F01 on my old G 800 the same as F01 on a newer Miele?
No. On the G 600 and G 800, F01 is an open temperature sensor and F02 a shorted one; from the G 1000 on, the two are swapped. Give us the model with the code.
Why are all four small lights on my Miele flashing?
On Generation 6000 machines with TimeControl, those lights count down the time left and all flash together when a fault is logged. The code is read on the visit.
Why is my fully integrated Miele flashing the Intake/Drain light?
Usually no water is arriving. Check the valve under the sink; if it is open, the screen in the WaterProof hose fitting or the inlet valve is next.
What does Fault with auto. door closing mean?
The motorized latch did not finish closing in time, often because a towel was in the way or the door was slammed. Switch off and on and close it gently; if it returns, the latch is tested.
Does the code tell you which part to replace?
It tells us which circuit failed a check. F11, for example, can be a filter, the house drain, a check valve or the pump, so each part is tested before anything is ordered.
