Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer Error Codes

A DishDrawer that finds a fault stops the wash, beeps, and shows a letter with a number: F for a fault in the machine, U or A for something you can often sort out yourself. The lists differ between generations, so the model number comes first.

$79 service call, applied to the repair. Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 7 PM.

In short: on all the generations listed here, F1 means water reached the base and tripped the flood sensor, and the drain pump runs. U1 on older drawers and A1 on Phase 9 mean the wash never got enough water. F2 on older drawers and F21, F24 or F25 on Phase 9 point at the motor and rotor, usually something jammed in it. Lid codes are F5 to F7 on Phase 6 and F51 to F54 on Phase 9. If F1 keeps returning, switch off at the breaker and close the valve.

Which code list applies

The data label is on the front of the cabinet frame. The last digit of the model number usually gives the generation, and the generations listed here each have their own codes. If your model ends in another digit, send us the model number rather than guessing from a list. Codes and their meanings vary by model and era, so read the table for your drawer, not the first list you find online.

Model looks likeGenerationHow a fault shows up
DD603, DS603Early DishDrawer, from about 2003F or U with a spanner on the handle screen; on integrated models, a red light in the center button and red program lights
DD24DCTX6, DD24SCX6, DD24DI6Phase 6, around 2009F1 to F9 with a spanner, or U1 with a tap symbol, on the handle screen; integrated and flat-door models use the same light pattern as above
DD24DCTX9, DD24SAX9, DD24DCHTX9Phase 9 prefinishedF or A and a number on the display, for example F25, with continuous beeping
DD24DI9N, DD24STI9N, DD24DDFTX9NPhase 9 integrated and DesignerNo number: the program lights on the top edge of the tub show a pattern, with the option lights flashing, and the lock light too for an F code

On integrated drawers the pattern is a binary number and easy to misread, so send us a photo of the lit lights.

How a DishDrawer reports a fault

  • A pulsing beep. A button press silences it. On a Phase 6, that also stops the drain pump during F1.
  • A code that comes straight back means the cause is still there. Note it and call rather than resetting it again.
  • The last faults are stored. The control keeps the current and the previous fault, so we can see what happened after you cleared the display.
  • A double often keeps going on one side. Many faults stop only their own drawer. A flood and the power faults stop both, and after a power fault on a Phase 6 the healthy drawer shows U4.
  • Some faults leave the lid down. The drawer then will not open normally. Switch it off at the breaker and call. Never push a drawer shut while its lid is down, because that tears the lid seal.

Phase 9 codes, by system

What each Phase 9 code means, in plain terms. A codes are alerts the owner can often clear. F codes are faults in the machine.

Water and alerts

CodeWhat it meansWhat you can do
A1Not enough water arrived to get the wash going.Open the supply valve fully, look for a kinked hose, and avoid running the washer at the same time. Foam causes it too.
A3The drawer could not pump its water out.Clean the drain filter, run the disposal and clear the air gap. Then it is the drain hose or the rotor.
A6The spray arm is missing, not seated on the rotor, or not getting enough water to run.Push the spray arm down on the rotor and check it spins freely.
A7Too much foam. The drawer runs a recovery routine, then carries on.Let it finish. Use only automatic dishwasher detergent and wipe up spilled rinse aid.
A09A Sanitize wash did not reach its temperature (integrated and Designer models).Check the water was on and the wash was not interrupted, then clear it and run it again.

Leaks, motor and heating

CodeWhat it meansWhat you can do
F1Water in the base tripped the flood sensor; the drain pump runs continuously.Switch off at the breaker and close the valve. Rule out foam; repeated F1 is a visit.
F21The motor drive in the base overheated.Often a motor working against a jam. Call.
F24The motor stalled, stopped or overloaded. With the power off, look for glass, a pit or a utensil under the rack, then call.
F25An electrical fault in the wash motor or its drive.Call.
F30The water temperature reading makes no sense: the sensor or its connection.Call.
F31The water got hotter than about 185°F.Call. A home water heater set that hot is rare, so the element or the control is likelier.
F4The heating element or its wiring is out of range.Call. Expect cool, wet dishes meanwhile.

Lid and water valve

CodeWhat it meansWhat you can do
F51A lid motor did not turn.Remove anything tall. The other lid checks are on the DishDrawer repair page.
F52An electrical fault in a lid motor circuit, often a connection or water on the wiring.Call.
F54A lid motor never reached the end of its travel.Same as F51, then call.
F70, F71An electrical fault in the water valve circuit.Call.

Electronics and communication

CodeWhat it meansWhat you can do
F82, F84, F85, F86, F87The motor control board in the base failed its own check.Call.
F95 to F99The drawer's wash controller found a fault in a part it runs: the drying fan, the detergent or rinse aid dispenser, or the softener on softener models.Call, and note which drawer shows it.
FC0, FC1A drawer's wash controller and the motor controller stopped talking.Switch off at the breaker for a minute. If it returns, call: a harness or one of the boards.
FC3, ErrThe top drawer cannot talk to the bottom one.Call. The bottom drawer's controller or its harness.

Phase 6 codes, and the light patterns on integrated models

Phase 6 drawers show nine F codes with a spanner and U1 with a tap symbol. Integrated and flat-door models light the center button red and use the red program lights for the number, as in the second column.

CodeIntegrated lightsWhat it means on a Phase 6
F1RinseThe flood sensor stayed wet for several seconds. Both drawers stop until it is cleared. With no water present, it is usually corrosion or dirt on the flood sensor, a connector, or the base board it sits on.
F2DelicateThe control saw no motor rotation: a jammed or failed rotor, the rotor sensor, the motor winding, or a board.
F3Delicate and RinseWater above about 185°F: an element stuck on, the sensor on the heater plate, or the controller. Power has to be switched off and on before the drawer runs again.
F4FastThe element ran for hours without the water warming: the heater plate, its connection, its sensor or the controller.
F5Fast and RinseThe lid is stuck up or down. Remove anything tall, then call.
F6Fast and DelicateThe lid motors ran but the lid did not finish closing, often an arm off the lid.
F7Fast, Delicate and RinseThe lid motors did not run at all, an electrical fault.
F8NormalElectrical leakage to ground, usually water on a harness, connector or board. Leave the drawer switched off and call.
F9Normal and RinseA power supply or controller fault, often after an F3 or F8. Call.
U1Heavy and RinseThe wash did not prime with water within about three minutes: the tap, low pressure, the spray arm, foam or the inlet valve.
U4Heavy and FastAdvisory: the other drawer has a fault that cut its power. Read the code on the other drawer.

The early DishDrawers

The DD603 generation shows fewer codes than later drawers, with the same light pattern on integrated models. Opening it during a wash just pauses it.

CodeWhat it means on a DD603
F1The flood sensor stayed wet; on a double, a power loss in the bottom drawer can make the top one show F1 too
F2No motor rotation sensed
F3Water above about 185°F
F4No temperature rise after about two hours of heating
F9An electronics memory fault; if it clears after the power has been off for ten seconds and stays clear, nothing else is needed
U1Failed to prime with water within about three minutes

We do not publish the button sequences for the service modes. They run motors, valves and the heater directly, and clearing the memory erases the fault history.

What the common codes turn out to be

A code names the circuit that complained, not the part that failed.

F1: find the water first

What it usually is: water that got past the lid, most often because something tall held it up, the seal is worn, or foam from the wrong detergent pushed out. Less often a hose or a seal under the tub. If the base is dry, the sensor itself is suspect.

What you can check: the detergent, and whether the drawer was overloaded.

What we do: find where the water came from before any part is replaced.

U1 and A1: water, foam or spray arm

What it usually is: usually the water supply or foam, less often a loose spray arm or the inlet valve. The fill checks are on the DishDrawer repair page.

F2, F24 and F25: debris before parts

What it usually is: glass, pits or bones in the rotor, then a worn rotor, then the motor winding or its sensor, and only then a board.

What you can check: with the power off, take out the filter plate as the owner's guide shows and look.

What we do: spin the motor in each direction in service mode and measure the windings before ordering.

Lid codes: the arms before the motors

What it usually is: something holding the lid up, or a lid arm come loose.

What we do: check the lid's travel and the arms before deciding a motor has failed.

Stay safe. If a drawer shows F1 again after you cleared it, or water is on the floor, switch the DishDrawer off at the breaker and close the supply valve. Treat F8 on a Phase 6 the same way, because it means electricity is leaking to ground. Do not keep cycling the power to clear a code that keeps returning, and do not tip or pull out the cabinet; it is fixed in place and the hoses run behind it.

DishDrawer error codes: questions

What does F1 mean on a Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer?

Water reached the base of the cabinet and tripped the flood sensor, so the wash stopped and the drain pump runs. Foam, a lid that did not seal and leaking seals are the usual causes.

What does F2 mean on a DishDrawer?

On Phase 6 and earlier drawers, the control saw no motor rotation. Something jammed in the rotor is the most common reason; after that the rotor, its sensor or the motor winding.

What do U1 and A1 mean?

Both mean the wash never got enough water to prime the pump. U1 is the older code and A1 the Phase 9 one. Check the supply valve, the hose and the detergent first.

How do I clear a DishDrawer fault code?

Once the cause is gone, Power clears it on most models. If the code returns right away, the fault is still present; write it down and call.

What does F25 mean on a DishDrawer?

On a Phase 9 drawer, F25 means the motor controller in the base found an electrical fault in the wash motor or its drive. With the power off, check under the filter plate for glass or a pit, then call; the motor and its wiring are tested before anything is ordered.

How do I read a code on an integrated DishDrawer with no display?

The code shows as a pattern of lit program lights, with other lights flashing to mark it as a fault. Take a photo of the lights with the drawer open and send it with the model number.

Why is my DishDrawer beeping every few minutes with no code?

It is paused, usually because the drawer was opened during the wash. Close it fully and press Start to resume.
