In short: Fisher & Paykel in a built-in kitchen usually means a DishDrawer, single or double, often hidden behind a custom panel, and sometimes a pair of integrated refrigerator and freezer columns or an ActiveSmart refrigerator. On DishDrawers the usual repairs are lid seals and lid motors, jammed rotors, and drain, fill, heating and flood faults. On the refrigerators it is fans, defrost parts, sensors, ice makers, water valves and the compressor drive. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Fisher & Paykel.

The Fisher & Paykel lines we service

A DishDrawer is not a dishwasher cut in half, and an integrated column does not cool like a Sub-Zero built-in. So the first thing we ask is what you have, and the model number and product code on the data label settle it.

  • DishDrawer dishwashers. 24-inch single and double drawers, standard or tall tub, in stainless, white or black, Designer flat-door fronts, and integrated models that take your own cabinet panel. We work on them from the early DD603 generation to current models: the 2009-era drawers whose number ends in 6, the Phase 9 models ending in 9 (Classic and Aspire, some with a built-in water softener), the generations in between and the later ones. On the oldest drawers, some electronic parts may no longer be made. Some DishDrawers were sold under the DCS name and are the same machine inside. See DishDrawer repair.
  • Integrated column refrigerators and freezers. The RS models: 24 and 30-inch refrigerator columns and 18, 24 and 30-inch freezer columns, 84 inches tall, panel-ready, with food modes you set per compartment and an ice maker on some freezers. See Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair.
  • ActiveSmart refrigerators. Freestanding bottom-freezer and French door models with RF numbers, older cabinets such as the 31-inch E522B, and the 36-inch RS36A integrated models, some with ice and water in the door.
  • Cooking. Fisher & Paykel and DCS ranges, rangetops, wall ovens and cooktops fail in the same places as the other premium brands: igniters, elements, sensors, fans and controls. Those repairs are covered on our professional range, wall oven and cooktop pages.

The model and serial are on the data label; the DishDrawer and refrigerator pages show where. The first two letters of the serial give the year and month; the FAQ below shows how to read them.

What fails on a Fisher & Paykel, and why

Most failures are parts that wear with use, water and heat, not defects. These are the main ones, DishDrawer first.

DishDrawer lid seal and lid motors

What it usually is: each tub is closed during the wash by a plastic lid with the seal molded in, pulled down by two small motors. Lid seals and lid motors wear with use; the checks and the repair are on the DishDrawer repair page.

DishDrawer rotor, motor and drain

What it usually is: one small motor under each tub does both jobs. It spins one way to wash and the other way to drain, so a piece of glass, an olive pit or a bone in the rotor can stop washing and draining at the same time. After that come worn rotors, motor sensors, and drain hoses or air gaps that clog.

What you can check: with the power off, take out the drain filter and filter plate as the owner's guide shows, and look for debris. Run the disposal and clear the air gap cap on the sink.

What we do: test the drain in service mode, separate a house drain problem from the machine, and free or replace the rotor.

Water in the DishDrawer base

What it usually is: water in the base of the cabinet trips a flood sensor, which stops the wash, runs the drain pump and shows F1. Where that water comes from is explained under F1 on the DishDrawer error codes page.

What you can check: if F1 keeps coming back, switch the DishDrawer off at the breaker and close the supply valve.

Refrigerator fans, defrost and sensors

What it usually is: one warm compartment usually means a fan, defrost part or sensor in that compartment. How columns and ActiveSmart models are built, and what fails in each, is on the Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair page.

Ice makers and water

What it usually is: column ice makers stop in some food modes, so check the settings first. Past that, it is the water supply, the valve or the ice maker; see ice maker repair.

Electronics and the compressor drive

What it usually is: Fisher & Paykel refrigerators run a variable-speed compressor through a separate inverter, and DishDrawers split their electronics between boards in the drawer and in the base. A failed board, a lost connection between boards, or water on a harness looks like a dead appliance from outside.

What you can check: the breaker, and whether the lights and display still respond.

What we do: check supply and signals at each board before replacing one. Compressor, leak and evaporator work on the refrigerators is done in-house. See sealed-system repair.

Error codes and indicators

DishDrawers report their faults: an F or A code on the display of newer models, F and U codes with a spanner on older ones, and a pattern of lit program lights on integrated models that have no display. ActiveSmart refrigerators sound an alarm and show the code as a pattern of temperature lights, and newer ones also light a spanner icon. Integrated columns are the exception. They log faults silently, so the only sign is a compartment that stops holding temperature or an ice maker that stops.

How we work on Fisher & Paykel in a finished kitchen

  • DishDrawers stay in the cabinet. Your panel comes off and is set aside on a blanket, and the drawer is repaired in place. Details are on the DishDrawer repair page.
  • Columns are mostly serviced from the front. The electronics and water parts sit in the base behind the toe kick, and the fans and heaters behind the inner panels. The stainless interiors dent easily, so they get covered before anything comes out.
  • Measurements and the fault log first. DishDrawer controls keep the last faults, and refrigerator controls keep faults and temperature history. We read them, then test the part, and nothing is ordered on a guess.
  • Lead times up front. Common parts are on the van. Fisher & Paykel parts usually come from a distributor within a few business days, and you hear the lead time before you decide.
  • Sealed-system work in-house. We are EPA-certified for refrigerant work. Current columns run on isobutane, a flammable refrigerant, and the repair is done with that in mind.

Fisher & Paykel repair: questions

Are you a Fisher & Paykel factory service center?

No. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Fisher & Paykel. If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact Fisher & Paykel first; once it is out of warranty, we can help.

Do you repair DCS DishDrawers?

Yes. DCS DishDrawers were built by Fisher & Paykel and share its parts and fault codes, so we repair them the same way.

Where is the model number on my Fisher & Paykel?

On the data label. A DishDrawer has it on the cabinet frame, visible once a drawer is pulled open; a column has it inside the lower compartment, on the right. Photograph the whole label, because the letter after the product code marks a production change and can change the parts.

How do I tell how old my Fisher & Paykel is?

Read the first two letters of the serial number. The first gives the last digit of the year (C is 1, U is 2, through D for 0, from the word CUMBERLAND), and the second gives the month (F is January through L for December, from FISHERPAYKUL). A serial starting NH, for example, was built in April of a year ending in 9.

Do you repair Fisher & Paykel and DCS ranges and wall ovens?

Yes. Their igniters, elements, sensors, fans and controls are repaired the same way as on other premium cooking appliances; see professional range repair and wall oven repair.

Do you repair Fisher & Paykel column refrigerators?

Yes, integrated refrigerator and freezer columns, including their ice makers, fans, defrost systems and controls, and sealed-system repairs done in-house. See Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair.

Which areas do you cover?

All of Orange County from Irvine, Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 7 PM, closed Sunday. See our service areas.
