In short: on a JennAir range the usual faults are an oven that will not heat or shows an F code, a cooktop burner that clicks or will not light, and a cooling blower or self-clean latch fault; on the refrigeration side it is a fresh-food section that warms up while the freezer stays cold, or an ice maker that stops. Almost all of it is repaired in place. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Whirlpool Corporation, which makes JennAir.
The JennAir lines we service
JennAir began in Indianapolis as Jenn-Air, the company that made the downdraft range famous, joined Maytag, and has been a Whirlpool brand since 2006. So a recent JennAir shares control design and many parts with Whirlpool's other premium lines, and some older JennAir refrigerators share a platform with Maytag and KitchenAid models. What we see in Orange County:
- Pro-style ranges. 30, 36 and 48 inch, all-gas (model numbers starting JGRP) and dual fuel (starting JDRP), with sealed burners and, on some models, an electric griddle. The dual fuel ovens are electric; the all-gas ovens bake and broil with gas and still have an electric convection element and fan at the back.
- Cooktops. Gas, electric and induction, including the downdraft models with the vent built into the cooktop.
- Wall ovens. Single and double ovens and the combination units with a microwave above the oven.
- Refrigeration. Built-in side-by-side and bottom-freezer models, French door refrigerators, panel-ready columns, and older freestanding bottom-freezer units from the Maytag years.
- Dishwashers and microwaves. See luxury dishwasher repair and microwave repair.
The model tag on a range or wall oven is usually on the frame around the oven opening or behind the lower drawer; on a refrigerator, inside the fresh-food section. A phone photo of it lets us check parts first, because JennAir changes boards within one model family.
What fails on a JennAir, and why
The common faults, ranges first:
Dual fuel oven not heating, or heating unevenly
What it usually is: the oven bakes with a hidden element under the floor, broils with an inner and an outer ceiling element, and adds a ring element around the convection fan. An open element, a relay on the main oven control that no longer closes, or a drifting sensor gives a slow preheat, a dead mode or one-sided browning. If the back of the range overheats, a safety cutoff shuts the oven down; it has to be replaced, and we find out why it tripped.
What you can check: which modes still heat, and an oven thermometer on the middle rack after a full preheat. During a plain Bake preheat this oven runs its bake, broil and convection elements together with the fan, so a fan sound in Bake is normal.
What we do: read the stored faults, switch each element on from the control's test menu and measure the sensor. See wall oven repair.
Gas oven slow to light or not lighting
What it usually is: on the all-gas ranges the bake and broil burners are lit by a spark, not a glowing igniter, and the control keeps the gas on only while the electrode senses a flame. A dirty or cracked electrode, a weak flame signal, the oven's spark module (separate from the cooktop's) or the gas valve leaves clicking and no flame, or a flame that lights and drops out.
What you can check: that the cooktop burners light, which tells us gas reaches the range. If you smell gas, turn the oven off, leave the house and call the gas company or 911 from outside.
What we do: with the gas closed at the range, test the spark, the flame signal and the valve, and replace the part that fails.
Cooktop burners clicking or not lighting
What it usually is: each burner has its own electrode fed by the cooktop spark module, and the pro-style ranges relight a burner that blows out. A boil-over that wets a burner base or a valve switch makes the top click with the knobs off. A cap that is not seated flat, clogged ports, a cracked electrode or a tired module gives a weak spark.
What you can check: caps flat, parts dry, ports clear. If the top keeps clicking with every knob off, cut power at the breaker and give the cooktop a few hours to dry.
What we do: test the switch, electrode, wiring and module on that burner. See professional range repair and cooktop repair.
Cooling blower faults
What it usually is: a two-speed blower keeps the electronics cool, and a speed sensor tells the control how fast it turns. Too slow or too fast at either speed brings up an F8 code and stops the oven. Grease on the wheel, worn bearings and a damaged harness are the usual causes.
What you can check: after cooking the blower should run on for a while and stop by itself. Silence or a new grinding sound is worth mentioning when you call.
What we do: read the measured speed from the control, then test the motor, sensor and wiring.
Self-clean latch, displays and boards
What it usually is: a motor locks the door for self-clean, and two switches report the door and the latch. When they disagree, self-clean is disabled while cooking still works. A stuck key or a fault between the control boards shows as an F2 or F6 code. After any board change we set the control to your exact model.
What you can check: let the oven cool fully after a clean, never force the door, and wipe the keypad dry; sprayed cleaner can make a key read as pressed.
What we do: test the latch motor and switches, and check the supply and connections before we condemn a board.
Refrigerator: fresh food warm, freezer cold
What it usually is: many JennAir refrigerators have one compressor. The freezer is cooled directly, and cold air reaches the fresh-food section through a motorized damper. A damper stuck closed, a stopped evaporator fan, or an evaporator choked with ice after a defrost failure starves the fresh-food side first. Defrost timing adapts to how long the heater ran last time, so a weak heater or failed defrost thermostat shows up over days.
What you can check: the set points, that the doors close by themselves, that food is not blocking the vents, and that the condenser grille is clear.
What we do: test the damper, fans, defrost heater and thermostat and sensors, clear the ice and confirm the next defrost. See built-in refrigerator repair.
Ice makers, water and the sealed system
What it usually is: no ice is most often a closed or weak water supply, a clogged filter, the inlet valve, a frozen fill tube or the ice maker module, and Orange County's hard water shortens valve life. Less often a refrigerant leak or a compressor that no longer pumps stops the cooling itself, and that is the repair that changes the decision most.
What you can check: the shutoff valve, the filter and that the ice maker is on. For cooling, a clean condenser and running fans.
What we do: test water flow and each part in turn; confirm any sealed-system fault with temperature and pressure readings, then repair it in-house. See ice maker repair and sealed-system repair.
JennAir pro-style range codes
On the pro-style gas and dual fuel ranges built from about 2011 (the JGRP and JDRP families), a fault shows in the clock as an F number for the system and an E number for the fault, for example F3E0. Most codes stop the oven; the probe and latch codes switch off only that feature. Other JennAir models use different lists.
| Code | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| F1E0, F1E1 | The display board or the main oven control failed its own check. | Breaker off for a minute. If the code returns, call. |
| F2E0, F2E1, F2E3 | Keypad unplugged, a key read as held down, or a failed keypad. | Wipe the panel dry and wait. If it comes back, call. |
| F3E0 | The oven temperature sensor reads out of range. | The oven will not heat. Usually the sensor or its wiring. |
| F3E3 | The meat probe or its socket reads shorted. | Unplug the probe and cook without it. |
| F3E2 | A warming drawer sensor fault on a range with no warming drawer. | The control is set to the wrong model, usually after a board change. |
| F5E0, F5E1 | Door and latch switches disagree, or the latch motor does not move. | Self-clean is off, cooking works. Do not force the door. |
| F6E0, F6E6 | The display board and the main oven control have lost contact. | Breaker off for a minute; if it returns, the boards or harness need testing. |
| F6E1, F6E2 | The oven went over temperature while cooking or self-cleaning. | Stop using the oven until it is checked; a relay that stays closed is a common cause. |
| F6E4, F6E5 | The boards do not match, or the oven size setting is wrong. | Usually follows a part replacement; the model setting needs correcting. |
| F8E0 to F8E3 | The cooling blower turns too slowly or too fast at low or high speed. | The blower, its speed sensor or the wiring. Call. |
Meanings vary by model and production era, and a code points at a system, not a part, so we confirm it with a test before ordering. Other brands are on error codes.
How we work on JennAir in a finished kitchen
- Range repairs from the front first. On the dual fuel models the display, keypad, latch, oven sensor and the broil and convection elements come out from the front. The cooling blower, convection fan motor, thermal cutoffs and hidden bake element are reached from the back, so those repairs bring the range forward on padding, and we tell you first.
- Gas closed first. The gas is shut at the appliance before any gas part is opened, and every fitting we touch is leak-tested.
- Stored faults before parts. The pro-style ranges keep a fault history and let us run each element, fan and the latch from the control.
- Refrigerators in place. Built-in and column units stay in their openings, with floors and panels protected.
- Lead times up front. Common parts are on the van. JennAir parts come through distributors, usually in a few business days, and we say so before you decide.

JennAir repair: questions
Why won't my JennAir range self-clean when the oven still bakes?
On the pro-style ranges two switches report the door and the self-clean latch. When they disagree the range shows an F5 code and blocks only self-clean; cooking still works. Let the oven cool and do not force the door; the latch motor or a switch is usually the repair.
What does F3E0 mean on a JennAir range?
On the pro-style gas and dual fuel ranges it means the oven temperature sensor reads out of range, so the oven will not heat. It is usually the sensor or its wiring, and we measure both before replacing anything.
Why does a fan run when my JennAir oven is on plain Bake?
The cooling blower protects the electronics and runs on after cooking, and on the pro-style ranges the convection fan also runs during the Bake preheat. Both are normal; a grinding fan or an F8 code is not.
My JennAir freezer is cold but the refrigerator is warm. Why?
On single-compressor models the fresh-food side gets cold air from the freezer through a damper. A stuck damper, a stopped evaporator fan or an iced-up evaporator after a defrost failure is the usual cause, and each is a moderate repair.
Do you repair JennAir downdraft cooktops?
Yes: the downdraft blower, its filters and controls, and the burners, elements or induction parts of the cooktop. On older units we check that the part is still available before you commit.
How much does a JennAir repair cost?
On the pro-style ranges an electrode, the oven sensor or the latch is a smaller repair and a display board or main oven control a larger one. On the refrigerators, sealed-system work is the top of the table above.
Is an older Jenn-Air worth repairing?
Usually. Elements, sensors, fans, latches and valves are usually worth replacing whatever the age; it becomes a replacement question when a discontinued control fails, and we check that before you commit.
