Luxury Appliance Repair in Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach has every kind of kitchen, from 1960s tract homes rebuilt around a Sub-Zero to waterfront houses in Huntington Harbour. Salt air, damp marine-layer mornings and older wiring and plumbing behind new cabinetry cause many of the problems in these kitchens, and we repair built-ins in place.

Huntington Beach homes and kitchens

Much of Huntington Beach went up in the 1960s and 1970s, and many of those tract houses now have kitchens rebuilt around built-in refrigeration and a professional range. Huntington Harbour adds waterfront homes with outdoor kitchens. Around Seacliff and toward Bolsa Chica, kitchens often run larger, with columns, wine storage and steam ovens, while condos downtown and near the pier use refrigerator drawers and compact built-ins.

So a Huntington Beach kitchen often pairs a new appliance with an older house, close to the ocean air.

What the beach air does

Salt reaches the condenser first; clean the coil with the power off, using the condenser cleaning guide. Three other effects are easier to miss.

  • Specks on stainless. Salt settling on stainless doors, handles and grilles leaves small brown spots. It is usually a surface stain, not a sign the appliance is failing. Wash with mild soap or a stainless cleaner along the grain, rinse and dry, and keep bleach, chlorine cleaners and steel wool off it.
  • Damp mornings and door seals. In marine-layer air, a poorly sealing door or drawer shows it fast: frost in the freezer, water beading on the door face, longer run times. Check that each door swings shut and the gasket sits flat; see frost buildup.
  • Burners that click when it is foggy. Moisture on a gas igniter can keep it sparking. With every knob off and the burners cool, wipe the caps and bases and let them dry. If it keeps clicking with the knobs off, switch the cooktop off at its breaker; clicking in dry weather needs a technician.

Old wiring and water lines behind a new kitchen

A remodel often keeps the old outlet and water line behind the new cabinets.

The water line

Many older houses feed the ice maker through a self-piercing saddle valve on old copper pipe. These choke with sediment, drip and starve the ice maker, and Sub-Zero's instructions rule them out. Slow or small ice with a fresh filter and the valve fully open often points here, though a frozen fill tube, the fill setting or the inlet valve can do the same, so we check those too. A new shutoff on old copper can be a job for your plumber; see ice maker repair.

The outlet

A Sub-Zero Classic built-in will not run on an outlet with reversed polarity, even though a lamp works there. On a cooktop or rangetop with automatic reignition, reversed polarity or a missing ground stops the spark module sensing the flame, so the burners keep clicking. Wiring faults are for your electrician; never run a built-in on an extension cord or a two-prong adapter.

Huntington Beach appliance repair: questions

Are the brown spots on our stainless refrigerator rust?

Usually not rust in the steel itself, just salt staining the surface. Near the water, wiping the doors and handles often keeps the spots from coming back.

Can you service the refrigerator drawers in our downtown condo kitchen?

Yes, Sub-Zero and other brands. The usual faults are a gasket, a worn slide, a fan or a sensor. Tell us where to park and whether there is an elevator; see Sub-Zero undercounter repair.

Our outdoor refrigerator in Huntington Harbour rusts at the hinges. Is it worth repairing?

Usually, if it still cools well: hinges, closers and slides can be cleaned or replaced. If it is an indoor model used outside, or the cabinet has rusted through, an outdoor-rated replacement makes more sense.

Our new built-in will not start, but the outlet works for other things. Why?

On a Sub-Zero Classic built-in, reversed polarity at the outlet is enough to stop it. We test the outlet and the unit, and if the wiring is the cause, an electrician corrects it.
